On 16th December 2010, the assessment and accreditation specialist Certified Quality Systems Ltd, confirmed that BHE Services had achieved formal accreditation under the ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management.
Managing Director Mike Robinson accepted the certificate on behalf of BHE Services, noting that this represented the latest step in an ongoing process of continuous improvement within the company.
“For many years, our staff have been working hard to develop policies and procedures that ensure that BHE Services carries out its work safely, responsibly and to the highest professional standards,” he said. “We achieved ISO 9001 accreditation for quality assurance in March 2010 because we wanted to show our clients that we take quality control very seriously. This latest accreditation serves to demonstrate that environmental management is every bit as important to us and that we are prepared to do much more than simply pay lip service to the green agenda.”
“BHE Services celebrated its fortieth anniversary in April this year,” said Mike Robinson. “The business has grown considerably since its launch in 1971 and this success is due in no small part to its ability to evolve in order to meet the demands of its clients. Today, we serve local authorities, housing associations, businesses and individual home-owners and, for all of these customers, energy is a very important concern. As gas specialists, we’ve always been keenly aware of the need for energy efficiency, safety and environmental responsibility and so I’m proud that we’re now gaining recognition for our strengths.”
Although most of the key measures were already in place prior to the accreditation process, the pursuit of ISO 14001 has prompted some important changes within the company. One of these was a review of the staff training programme to ensure that all employees understood their responsibilities with respect to environmental management. Another was the creation of a new storage area for electrical waste and battery disposal in accordance with the WEEE Directive.
