If an appliance isn&#8217;t annually checked, or has not been installed properly, it can lead to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Carbon Monoxide is also known as &#8216;The Silent Killer.&#8217; By ensuring you are being Gas Safe, you can be comfortable in the knowledge that you and those around you are safe.</p>

<p><strong>Gas Safety For Home Owners</strong></p>

<p><strong>What Should I Do If I Suspect An Appliance Is Unsafe?</strong><br />
It is illegal for anyone to use a gas appliance if they suspect it is unsafe. Turn the appliance off and do not touch it until it has been checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer . <br />
If you suspect there is a gas leak you should immediately do the following: <br />
Call National Grid&#8217;s Gas Emergency Freephone number: 0800 111 999 <br />
Open all the doors and windows <br />
Shut off the gas supply at the meter control valve (if you know where it is) </p>

<p><strong>What Maintenance Needs To Be Carried Out On My Gas Appliance?</strong><br />
HSE strongly advises that all gas appliances, flues and pipework should be installed, regularly maintained and serviced at least annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer . </p>

<p><strong>Do I Have To Use A Gas Safe Registered Engineer To Complete Gas Work?</strong><br />
Anyone employed to work on gas appliances in domestic premises must be a Gas Safe registered engineer and competent in that area of gas work. The gas engineer&#8217;s competencies are clearly marked on the back of the engineer&#8217;s Gas Safe Register ID card. If in any doubt you can ring Gas Safe Register 0800 408 5500 or check their website to see if the engineer is registered.</p>

<p><strong>Does HSE Recommend The Use Of CO Alarms?</strong><br />
HSE strongly recommends the use of CO alarms as one useful precaution to give advance warning of CO in a property. Importantly alarms should not be regarded as a replacement for regular maintenance and safety checks by a Gas Safe registered engineer . CO alarms cost between £20-£30 and can be purchased in most hardware shops. Before purchasing a CO alarm, always ensure it complies with British Standard EN 50291 and carries a British or European approval mark, such as a Kitemark. CO alarms should be installed and maintained in line with the manufacturer&#8217;s instructions </p>

<p><strong>What Gas Appliances Do I Have Responsibilities For?</strong><br />
Any gas appliance that you own and provide for the tenant&#8217;s use is included in your legal duties. If a tenant has their own gas appliance that you have not provided, then you have responsibilities for parts of the associated installation and pipework but not for the actual appliance.</p>

<p> There are some good practice measures that you could adopt with appliances that tenants own: <br />
1. Send a reminder to the tenant that their appliances should be serviced and checked for safety each year by a Gas Safe registered , and where possible, offer to include these (at reasonable cost) within gas safety maintenance undertaken on your behalf. <br />
2. At the start of the tenancy, advise the tenant of any flues or chimneys that are unsuitable for the installation of a gas appliance. You may also wish to consider regulating the installation of any appliance by a tenant through the conditions of the tenancy agreement. <br />
3. It is also recommended to include all flues (e.g. chimneys) connected to gas appliances within your landlord&#8217;s gas safety check, even where they do not serve appliances provided by the landlord. This may also help to fulfil other legal duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. </p>

<p><strong>What If I Have Shared ownership Of My Property With Another Housing Company?</strong><br />
If you have shared ownership of your property and the lease is for longer than 7 years the housing company does not have landlord&#8217;s duties under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 (GS(IU)R 98). In this situation you would have the same responsibilities as a homeowner. </p>

<p>In situations where a lease is shorter than 7 years then the housing company would be classified as a landlord under GS(IU)R 98. The contract between you and the housing company should clearly state who is responsible for the associated duties for domestic gas safety. </p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>BHE started up in 1971 by Ronnie Wilkinson</p><p>It derived from his plumbing firm called Paragon Plumbing Services Ltd which he had founded in the early sixties. The two persons elected to run BHE were Bert Hamilton and Stan Rigby. Bert to manage the central heating and maintenance section and Stan to manage the electrical system. BHE’s full name at this stage was <strong>Bolton Heating and Electrical</strong>. From the outset there were just two faults engineers, one service engineer, one electrician and one electrical apprentice. At that time and due to a building boom, thousands of gas appliances were being installed and there were very few maintenance companies around. Ronnie recognised the gap in the market and capitalised on it. BHE then went on to install hundreds of gas fired warm air heating systems in many parts of the country with all the ducting being manufactured by PPS Fabrications which Ronnie formed to complement his installation and maintenance business.</p>

<p>Throughout it’s history BHE Services (Bolton Ltd) secured and maintained several contracts with Bolton Council, Salford Council, Little Hulton and Walkden, Accrington Council (now Hyndburn BC), Haslingden and Rawthenstall Council, also housing associations including the Guinness Trust, Contour, Rivers, Homes For Change and Dr Chadwick’s Housing Trust. In addition, part of the head office complex was converted into a gas showroom under the name Classical Gas 22.</p>

<p>Today and for over the past 25 years, BHE Services (Bolton) Ltd has serviced and maintained Wigan Council properties which is now called Wigan and Leigh Housing. With a housing stock of predominantly gas heated properties (approaching 20,500) their number some 55,000 appliances. During this period well over a million services for this authority have been completed. In addition to servicing, BHE Services (Bolton) Ltd has provided and responded to routine maintenance needs including emergency service during and outside normal working hours, including weekends and bank holidays over the same period. Along with domestic heating systems, smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide alarms are also installed and shower heads with hoses are changed to reduce the risk of legionella. Being in partnership with Wigan and Leigh Housing has meant also partnering with Mears Group PLC and Leigh Building Services.</p>

<p><strong>Solid Underfloor Heating</strong><br />
Solid underfloor heating is ideal for installing in solid or screeded floors. They have a maximum heat output of 100W/m2 (Watts per metre squared). A great advantage of this is it transfers water from the pipe into the floor which will heat the room more evenly, unlike radiators which are fixed to a certain part of the room.</p>

<p><strong>Floating Floor Heating</strong><br />
These are suitable for using in both new and existing properties, floating floor heating can be installed on solid or timber floors. Floating floors heating have a maximum heat output of 70W/m2 (Watt per metre squared) and amplify heat for the greatest result. Floating floors are available if a solid floor is not ideal for installation e.g structural weight similar to that of solid floor heating.</p>

<p><strong>Suspended Floor Heating</strong><br />
Suspended floor heating is designed specifically for timber/battened floors. This type of under floor heating is ideal for sports halls or anywhere with ‘sprung’ flooring. Suspended floors have a maximum heat output of 70W/m (Watts per metre).</p>

<p>Overlay </p>

<p>Overlay heating systems are installed on top of existing floor covering. They have a maximum heat output of 100W/m2.&nbsp; It has been proved that Overlay heating systems are 15% more efficient than traditional heating. Because they work at a lower temperature than normal radiators, you will notice a reduction in your bills. They also require no maintenance. </p>

At BHE Services we have always placed the client first in offering a ‘value for money’ service. Cost versus value is high on many client’s agendas and to this end we have developed skills in value engineering and undertaking feasibility studies for our clients including a full design service. </p>

<p>An example of this is where we were asked to undertake a large planned programme of full heating replacement works. On further analysis of the project we discovered that existing radiators were in good condition and it was just the out-dated central heating boilers which required an upgrade. This saved the client substantial funds which were then used to deliver works to the wider community than was previously anticipated. </p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>We have ‘State of the Art’ training facilities here at BHE, ensuring that all our staff are fully conversant with all aspects of the Heating, Plumbing and Renewable Energy Industry.</p><p>1)	In 2004 BHE Services acquired its own ‘state of the art’ training facility. With assistance from our suppliers and manufacturers, it is fully equipped with a number of ‘live’ installations and appliances ensuring maximum opportunity for operatives to hone their skills as well as learn and develop new ones</p>

<p>2)	The training facility is unique in that simulated domestic settings are staged from the front door bell and door mat and a range of other considerations and challenges through to the operative’s departure. It can be seen that this ‘virtual’ setting comprehensively mirrors the challenges faced by operatives working in a customer’s residence. For gas engineers, a fully functional kitchen has been fitted. Adjacent to the kitchen is a ‘lounge area’ which has items of furniture and a gas fire installation, marble hearth and fire surround complete with ‘expensive’ ornaments, and other breakable items. Operational staff undergo training in customer care and BHE Services use scenario based examples to deliver important messages in an enjoyable yet professional way. </p>

<p>3)	With our commitment to supporting local communities and working alongside schools and technical colleges, BHE Services has trained over 66 apprentices to date, many of whom remain within the company.</p>



<p>4)	Indeed, the company has commenced an apprenticeship programme in Renewable Energy Services. Training will extend to the entire workforce which will ensure that all staff at all levels will gain a full understanding of Renewable Energy and the service we provide and be fully prepared for the changes and developments anticipated in this rapidly growing industry.</p>

We have set in place a number of strategies which has reduced any detrimental impact we may have made on the environment during the course of our work.       <description><![CDATA[<p>In 2004 BHE Services acquired its own ‘state of the art’ training facility. With assistance from our suppliers and manufacturers, it is fully equipped with a number of ‘live’ installations and appliances ensuring maximum opportunity for operatives to hone their skills as well as learn and develop new ones</p><p>The training facility is unique in that simulated domestic settings are staged from the front door bell and door mat and a range of other considerations and challenges through to the operative’s departure. It can be seen that this ‘virtual’ setting comprehensively mirrors the challenges faced by operatives working in a customer’s residence. For gas engineers, a fully functional kitchen has been fitted. Adjacent to the kitchen is a ‘lounge area’ which has items of furniture and a gas fire installation, marble hearth and fire surround complete with ‘expensive’ ornaments, and other breakable items. Operational staff undergo training in customer care and BHE Services use scenario based examples to deliver important messages in an enjoyable yet professional way. </p>

<p>With our commitment to supporting local communities and working along side schools and technical colleges, BHE Services has trained over 66 apprentices to date, many of whom remain within the company.</p>

<p>Indeed, the company has commenced an apprenticeship programme in Renewable Energy Services. Training will extend to the entire workforce which will ensure that all staff at all levels will gain a full understanding of Renewable Energy and the service we provide and be fully prepared for the changes and developments anticipated in this rapidly growing industry.</p>

<p>A ‘Renewable Energy’ expert with experience in successfully providing energy efficient solutions to a varied client group. He has a range of associated project management skills and abilities, in addition to a strong commitment to satisfying the customer’s needs.</p>

<p>Developing the skills and abilities of others has featured significantly in his career. From training apprentices on site, to supporting the development of a ‘Renewable Energy’ training facility for the Chamber of Commerce, the rewards are considered as reciprocal for both trainer and trainee. </p>

<p>With a robust grounding in heating installation and maintenance and having a thorough understanding of the sector, Daniel can demonstrate a proven track record of his abilities and a dedication to energy conservation.</p>

<p>Daniel heads up the Renewable Energy Services Division. Daniel brings knowledge to the company through his work as a Company Director of his own Mechanical and Electrical company. This was a valuable experience which gave Daniel commercial awareness as well as strong business acumen. His work as a trainer / assessor in gas and renewable energy practices allowed him the opportunity to pass his skills on to others within the well respected Manchester Skills Centre, an organisation run by the Manchester Chamber Of Commerce. </p>

<p>Daniel also has held senior positions at successful renewable Energy companies throughout the UK and been through 5 MCS accreditations and assessments in various technologies. </p>

<p>Daniel’s proudest achievement was acting as Contracts Supervisor at The Building Research Establishment’s (BRE) Head Quarters, delivering a full renovation of a conventionally built property whilst fitting and integrating a number of ‘retro-fit’ Renewable Energy Technologies. This site is now used as the government’s ‘flag-ship’ research facility allowing ongoing research and development of renewable technologies.</p>

<p>The growth of our Renewable Energy Services Division requires significant time and energy from all staff. However, Daniel remains the driving force to coordinate and manage all tasks to make sure it is a success.</p>

<p>PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) have been in use for a number of years and our database is updated to meet changing needs - enabling instant paperless communication. This facilitates effective job tracking, makes accurate information readily available to our operatives in the field and enables us to be more precise with appointment times for tenants. In a similar vein, our use of Opti-time scheduling and appointment software helps us to maintain our excellent rapid response performance whilst making us even more efficient in allocating skill sets and reducing the need for travel. This increases performance on any given contract and makes appreciable cost savings, which are routinely shared with customers.
